About Karen
Karen lives in North Wales, where she draws inspiration from the mythic landscape and from the people around her, for her work. Although she began her writing career as a poet, she now also writes plays, stories and longer fiction. A graduate of the Universities of Birmingham and Southampton, she considers her greatest influences to be D.H. Lawrence and Patrick Jones. Her poetry and plays often address social injustice and attempt to give a voice to those who would otherwise be unheard, while her fiction has a supernatural edge.
Karen Ankers is a poet, playwright and novelist, based in Anglesey, North Wales. Her poems have been published in many anthologies and magazines, and she published her first collection, One Word At A Time, in 2017. Her short plays have been performed in the UK, USA, Australia and Malaysia, and her first novel, The Crossing Place, was well received by readers. She has also written an award-winning short film. Currently studying for a PhD in Creative Writing at Bangor University, she is also working on her second novel and editing a poetry anthology which aims to raise awareness of a local environmental issue. She has worked with Welsh Adult Learning and with Voluntary Arts Wales, and maintains an interest and presence in local literary events.
